Patsy Sue Tapley

Patsy Sue Tapley, age 94, of Karnak, passed away at 3:30 A.M. Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Patsy was born July 23, 1929 in Karnak, Illinois. She was the daughter of Lee and Claris (Kean) Wilson.

On August 14, 1949 Patsy was united in marriage to Louis (Gene) Tapley at the United Methodist Church in Karnak, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2024.

She is survived by two children – Scott (Kay) Tapley of Karnak, Illinois, Mecca (Jeff) Helm of Grand Chain, Illinois; four grandchildren – Brett (Carrie) Tapley of Tunnel Hill, Illinois, Brandi Seely of Nashville, Tennessee, Megan (Jordan) McClellan of Grand Chain, Illinois, Maren (Brad) Moreland of Dongola, Illinois; six great-grandchildren, Makayla Seely, Madyson Seely, Micah Tapley, Grady Lee McClellan, Myla Moreland and Liberty McClellan; two sister in-laws, Peggy Wilson of Karnak, Illinois and Suzann Spindler of Chester, Illinois. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her brothers, Lee Ray Wilson of Sparta, Illinois and J.M. Wilson of Karnak, Illinois.

Patsy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Karnak and a 1947 graduate of Karnak Community High School. After graduation Patsy attended and graduated from Draughon’s College of Business in Paducah, Kentucky.

Patsy worked various jobs and retired from Shawnee Development Council in 1995.

Patsy loved cooking and baking along with watching the Dallas Cowboys and Kentucky Wildcats. She loved the game of golf, her and Gene played many golf tournaments through the years.

When those we love have stepped across the threshold of Gods door, they leave behind memories. Remembering this loved one today, many are the memories that we have of her to cherish forever.

Funeral services honoring the life of Mrs. Patsy Sue Tapley will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, February 9, 2024 at the National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois. Rev. Steve Heisner will be officiating. Everyone is asked to gather at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105 – 9959. Envelopes will be provided.
