James Winding

James L “Jim” Winding Jr., age 87, of Grand Chain, Illinois passed away peacefully at 7:07 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Baptist Health, Paducah, Kentucky surrounded by his family.

Jim was born March 28, 1937 to James and Lorraine Winding in Villa Ridge, Illinois.

Jim and wife, Pansy were married on May 17, 1974 and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. They loved being together and keeping up with the lives of their family. Jim was a member of Caledonia Community Church where he served in the food pantry for many years. He retired from the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) after working there for 37 years. He loved sharing memories of his employment there and could still remember stock numbers of all the products. After his retirement, he was employed by Head Start, where he drove a bus and was referred to by all as Mr. Jim. He loved and remembered every child and was always thrilled to run into them as adults. He and Pansy also enjoyed delivering meals for Smiles to area shut-ins.

Jim and Pansy loved and raised six children, three boys and three girls. He instilled in each a love for laughter, foolishness, and family. He shared his opinions with them often and his prayers for them faithfully. He will be fondly remembered as a talker, someone who loved to tease, and a friend to all he knew.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pansy, their children, son, Scott (Paula) Winding of Metropolis and daughters, Carol Hopkins of Anna, Tammy (Tadge) Wilson of Grand Chain, and Stacy (Bryan) Parrett of Godfrey; daughter-in-law Diane of Jacksonville; sister-in-laws, Nancy Winding of Mounds and Sherry Windings of Mt. Vernon.

Grandchildren, Niki Winding, Candi (Zack) Coder, Zack (CJ) Winding, Dustin (Shonna) Winding, Justin Ellis, Rowan and Mason Parrett and Allen Herring (Heather), Chance Light (Lindsey), Emilee Frilling (Kyle), Brittani Harrington and Michelle Harrington (Austin), Leslie (Zack) Ablett.

Great-grandchildren, Grace, Dean, Wylder, Wesley, Aubrey, Easton, Kenna, Onna, Barry, Koraline, Gracie, Ryder and AJ.

Several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Tim and Jeff Winding, three brothers, Bob Winding, Gordon Windings and Pete Windings.

Jim lived a vibrant life and left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith in Our Lord. His love, joy, and obedience to God throughout all of his life has been a testimony for us all. To have known him is to be blessed, and to miss him deeply is proof of a life well lived and well loved.

Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. James L. “Jim” Winding Jr. will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. John Windings and Rev. Mike Sharp will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Olmsted. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 11A.M. til the sevice hour at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Zack Winding, Mason Parrett,Bryan Parrett, Dustin Winding, Niki Winding, Candi Winding, Zack Ablett and Rowan Parrett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Caledonia Community Church Food Pantry, 10076 Highway 76, Olmsted, Illinois 62970.

Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
