Sharon Kay “Kay” O’Neil

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Kay “Kay” O’Neil in Houston, Texas, on February 24, 2025.

Kay was a cherished member of the DeWitt, Iowa community, known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support for her friends and family.

Kay, the daughter of Delbert and Pearl Britt, was born in Olmsted, Illinois, on September 26, 1942. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, leaving behind a loving and caring husband, Joe O’Neil.

Kay and Joe shared a remarkable journey together, being married for 64 years, and creating countless beautiful memories. They raised their family in DeWitt, Iowa, where they lived for more than 50 years.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Pearl Britt, her sister Sue Chandler and her oldest son, William Patrick O’Neil.

She is survived by her youngest son, Tim O’Neil, who resides in San Antonio, Texas, with his fiancée, Renee Trimble. Kay leaves behind four grandchildren: Cameron O’Neil (Sydney) of Genoa City, Wisconsin; Austin O’Neil of Sarasota, Florida; Lauren O’Neil of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Madeleine O’Neil of Germany. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Isla O’Neil, the daughter of Cameron and Sydney O’Neil.

In her lifetime, Kay touched many lives through her acts of kindness and community involvement. She loved visiting the West Wing Nursing Home in DeWitt, delivering mail, and spending time with the residents, bringing joy and companionship to those in need. Kay also enjoyed entertaining and spending time in the backyard gazebo with friends and family, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all. She was a die-hard Hawkeye fan and watched every game she could. Most importantly, Kay adored her grandchildren and never missed any of their school activities, including baseball, basketball, track, soccer, cheer, dance, or robotics. Kay had a deep devotion to the Catholic Church and found strength and peace in her faith. She enjoyed taking long walks and jogging when she still had the ability to do so. Kay will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
