Eugene “Beechnut” Leonard, age 97, of Metropolis, Illinois formerly of Joppa and Karnak passed away at 2:17 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
He was born in Perks, Illinois on July 14, 1926. He attended school in Perks. Eugene had worked at Main Brothers Box and Lumber Company and Tapleys Service Station in Karnak. He was a very gifted mechanic. He loved spending time with his grandkids.
Eugene is survived by one daughter, Pam (John ) Fletcher of Metropolis; four sons, Bill (Donna) Davis of Roswell, New Mexico, John (Cheryl) Leonard of Karnak, Mike (Liz) Leonard of Metropolis and Toby (Tracy) Leonard of Metropolis; twenty one grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Tyler Leonard (2004); three sons, Robert Davis, Wayne Davis and Clarence Leonard; granddaughter, Aimee Davis; two brothers, Carl and William Leonard; parents, Clarence and Reda Chesney Leonard.
Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Eugene “Beechnut” Leonard will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Tom Quimby will be officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 til 8 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Ullin City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Billy Davis, Bobby Davis, Michael Leonard, James Leonard, Andrew Leonard and Clayton Leonard.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.
