Ronald (Ron) Dixon, of Sugar Grove, IL, passed away on May 6, 2024 at his home. He was born in Peoria, IL on July 9, 1941 to parents Wayne and Zoa Dixon.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Carrie Dixon; granddaughter, Sandra Holleran; brother, Richard; sister, Joanne DeGroot, and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Gwendolyn Tarpley, Joyce Hall, and Mary in infancy; and brothers, Thomas and Robert.
Ron lived with his aunt and uncle in Grand Chain, IL his last two years of high school and that is where he met the love of his life. Ron and Sandra Weece married on June 15, 1963 and celebrated their 60th anniversary last year. After graduating from high school, Ron attended Southern Illinois University. Ron became an Illinois State Trooper in 1966 and was assigned to District 15, where he remained until his retirement in 1996. The bond he formed with his fellow officers is still strong even after being retired for over thirty years.
Ron had a love for all sports and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and avid fisherman. Ron’s greatest love was for his family. He loved attending the annual Dixon Family Reunion where he fried fish for the whole family.
Many years ago, Ron enjoyed helping plow snow at the Sugar Grove Airport. That eventually became a part time job. He enjoyed the camaraderie he had with his coworkers and spending time in the fresh air.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at The Healy Chapel Sugar Grove, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL 60554. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sugar Grove Cemetery, 540 Merrill Rd., Sugar Grove, IL 60554.
